December 23 & 24, 2025
During the Christmas season on December 23 and 24, 2025, InThinking Youth Club visited Wing Kei Care Centre to celebrate the holidays with senior residents. The visit was meant to create moments of joy and companionship during a festive time that holds strong emotional meaning for many seniors.
As younger members of the Chinese community, we felt that sharing the celebration in a familiar language and cultural context was especially important. Offering Christmas greetings and blessings in their native language helped create an immediate sense of warmth and closeness. Singing carols together, exchanging stories, and spending time face to face allowed the celebration to feel personal rather than performative. When we handed each resident a small Christmas gift, the joy on their faces reminded us how meaningful simple gestures can be.
What stood out most was the genuine happiness in the room. Some seniors sang along softly, others smiled and clapped, and many shared memories of past holidays. These moments showed how joy is often found in connection and presence rather than in grand events. The experience highlighted the value of slowing down, listening, and being fully present with others.
For our members, the visit became a reminder of the importance of intergenerational connection. Bringing joy to others also brought joy to us, creating a shared sense of warmth that stayed long after the visit ended. The experience reinforced how community, culture, and human connection play a powerful role in creating meaningful moments, especially during times of celebration.
We are grateful to Wing Kei Care Centre for welcoming us and allowing InThinking Youth Club to be part of such a joyful and heartwarming holiday experience.
